In large environments, traditional manual application installations can be time-consuming and error-prone. This blog explores the advantages of using Citrix VAaD packages, created with PSADT-Package Wizard and deployed via XOAP, to automate and streamline the installation process. Using XOAP for deployment ensures consistency across clients, reduces manual effort, and speeds up the process.

This blog provides a step-by-step guide to automating and managing installations using Citrix VAaD PSADT packages and XOAP. Follow these instructions to streamline the installation process and enable centralized management for faster, more efficient rollouts.

How to: Automate installations with VAaD PSADT & XOAP

Download the PSADT package from this blog. Then, log in to xoap.io and open your designated Workspace.
Log in to your XOAP Workspace

On the left side, under “Application Management”, select the “Applications” tab.

To upload an application package to XOAP, click the green + button. You can select the Citrix package file in zip format manually or add it via drag and drop.

If needed, use the “Overwrite” option to replace older versions. Additionally, you can specify relevant tags.

The next step is to create a new group under “Application Management” by navigating to Groupes and clicking ”+ New Group.”

Here, you can enter the name, description, et tags, then select and add the desired applications to the group. Add as many applications as needed. In the “Selected Applications” tab, you can also adjust the installation order if required.

After selecting the package, the “Create Configuration” window opens, allowing you to customize the installation as needed. The configuration items are adjusted based on the parameters of the selected installation package.

After creating the group, the next step is to define a role.

Here, you also enter the name, description, et tags. Additionally, the previously created group is added.

Now, navigate to Configuration Management → Groups. Here, a group is created using the previously defined items from Application Management, linking everything together.

This is where you set the name, configuration, policies, application role, et tags. You can either create your own configurations and policies or use the preconfigured templates we provide.

Once the group is created in Configuration Management, scroll to the right on the page to access the Action Menu. From there, you can choose either “Download registration script” ou “Copy registration command.” The script must be executed with administrative privileges in PowerShell on a system of your choice.

This establishes a direct connection to XOAP, retrieving all necessary files and configurations for application installation. Upon execution on the target system, the application is installed, and the system is registered under Nodes. This streamlines future software distributions, allowing you to deploy software directly from XOAP to the systems.

Nodes can also display Last Activity, Name, Configuration Group, Compliance Status, OS and Version, System Language, Architecture, et le Domain to which the system belongs. Additionally, it indicates whether the system is a virtual machine or another type of device.

Clicking on the node name takes you to the node overview, where you can view system information, the PowerShell DSC state, and installed applications. Selecting “Application” displays the Citrix applications along with their version numbers.

Optimize application deployment lifecycle

From a technical standpoint, automating the deployment of Citrix VAaD packages using PSADT-Package Wizard and XOAP provides significant benefits in terms of consistency and error reduction. The automation eliminates the need for manual configuration and installation on each client machine.

En outre, centralized management via XOAP allows IT teams to monitor and control the entire process smoothly, securing faster rollouts and updates. This solution is highly scalable, making it ideal for large environments where traditional methods would be too slow and cumbersome. Overall, this approach optimizes the application deployment lifecycle, reduces overhead, and improves system reliability.
